Rainy Saturday

Today every day seems like a rainy Saturday, despite the lovely 17 degree day we had yesterday (8 degrees today) and even though Saturday loses significance when you aren’t working a 9 to 5 week. It’s good to have rain though, made evident by Felix’s muddy pawprints leading from the cat flap to his bowl. He spent the day by the fire – speaking of which, the woodshed is being progressively de-stacked after all that effort to stack it (but what a relief to have it). I dried washing inside, made Anzac biscuits and scones and, with nothing outside clamouring for attention, read the weekend newspaper – and last weekend’s too (the weather must have been better then).

Meantime, the birds are looking for food – with a break while Felix inspects the source of their attention. While admonishing him, I looked at my rather pathetic efforts to brighten up the garden with some colour – pansies and petunias – balanced precariously on the rickety frame of what remains of the greenhouse.

I noted a leak in the garage, and moss on the bricks – just part of the time of year, I guess. Thank goodness for perennially cheerful pansies and petunias. And now it’s cocktail/mocktail time, and Nashville Babylon on RNZ National (‘Well, hello!’).
